Question 1 of 5
Passage 01
Everyone deals with integrity underlying moral issues in their everyday life. Most of our parents would have taught us during our growing up years that we must inculcate this virtue because it is the right thing to do. If We ask what is integrity? It means honesty- Keeping to one’s word even if it costs us dearly to do so. Integrity comes in many forms but honesty and dependability are two traits that are expected in most work place situations. Irresponsible behaviour and distrust can-make a work environment tense and uncomfortable. A strong work ethics shows co-workers and clients that you’re reliable and take your responsibilities seriously.
Which of the following is the most rational inference from the above passage?
CorrectAns. (b)
Integrity which consists of honesty and dependability is the most essential requirement at work place to earn respect from co-workers and clients.
IncorrectAns. (b)
Integrity which consists of honesty and dependability is the most essential requirement at work place to earn respect from co-workers and clients.

Question 2 of 5
Climate change is fundamentally redrawing the map of where people can live. Food supplies are being disrupted in North Africa’s Sahel region and Central America; and water stress and scarcity are growing worse in North Africa and the Middle East. Somalia is experiencing more frequent droughts. Iraq is battling more frequent heat waves. Unprecedented storms and floods have battered the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. As the abnormal becomes the new normal, scarcities, zero-sum competition, and mass displacements will become more common. But there is good news to report on two fronts.First, we are making major strides in building resilience to extreme weather. In the 1970s, Bangladesh lost hundreds of thousands of people to extreme flooding. Today, the fatalities from similar occurrences, while no less tragic, are far fewer in number. We are getting better at coping with disasters. Second, for the first time in history, the international community is coming together to manage climate change.
Which of the following is/are the correct inference/inferences that can be made from the passage?
- Today, due to improved resilience to extremeweather conditions, the total fatalities (due todisasters) are far fewer in number.
- The international community is able to well managethe challenges of climate change.
Choose the correct answer from the codes given below.
CorrectAns- (d)
In the second half the passage talks about two positive proceedings, One is increased resilience to extreme weather conditions. As a result, the fatalities from similar events have decreased (i.e. for disasters of similar intensity, fatalities, today, are far fewer in number). The passage does not talk about total fatalities due to disasters. The total number of fatalities may have increased, decreased or may be the same. The total number of fatalities may have increased, if the-frequency of disasters has increased. The second positive thing is that, the international community is coming together to manage climate change. Here also, we do not have sufficient data given in the passage about proper management of climate change by international community. The passage only says, international community has started coming-together. Thus, both the given inferences cannot be drawn.

According to the passage, which of the following are the consequences of Climate Change?
- Disruption of food supplies
- Increased droughts and heat waves
- Melting of ice and opening of new sea routes
- Mass displacements
Select the correct answer using the codes given below.
CorrectAns- (c)
Passage gives various negative consequences of Climate Change. Food supplies are being disrupted in Africa; more frequent droughts in Somalia; more heat waves in Iraq. Thus, consequences 1 and 2 are correct. It also says, in future, the mass displacements will become more common. This suggests that mass displacements are present even today. Thus, consequence 4 is also correct. Melting of ice and opening of new sea routes may be a general consequence of Climate change. But it is not mentioned in the passage-Hence, consequence 3 is incorrect.

Question 4 of 5
In a typical Western liberal context, depending of democracy invariably leads to consolidation of “liberal values.’ In the Indian context, democratisation is translated into greater involvement of people not as ‘individuals’ which is a staple to liberal discourse, but as communities or groups. Individuals are getting involved in the public sphere not as ‘atomized’ individuals but as members of primordial communities drawn on religious or caste identity. Community-identity seems to be the governing force. It is not therefore surprising that the so-called peripheral groups continue to maintain their identities with reference to the social groups (caste, religion or sect) to which they belong while getting involved in the political processes despite the fact that their political goals remain more or less identical. By helping to articulate the political voice of the marginalised, democracy in India has led to ‘a loosening of social structures’ and empowered the peripherals to be confident of their ability to improve the socio-economic conditions in which they are placed. This is a significant political process that had led to a silent revolution through a meaningful transfer of power from the upper caste elites to various subaltern groups within the democratic framework of public governance.
According to the passage, what does ‘deepening of democracy’ mean in the Western context?
CorrectSol. (d)
The statements given in options (a), (b) and (c) are not correct according to the passage, hence, option (d) is correct.
IncorrectSol. (d)
The statements given in options (a), (b) and (c) are not correct according to the passage, hence, option (d) is correct.
