Hello dear students!

We hope you all are doing great. We trust that those who have given UPSC CSE Mains 2023 have given your best and are eagerly waiting for results which is round the corner!

You only have one last hurdle to pass – the Personality Test, after Prelims & Mains exam, to make your name in the final list. The most interesting aspect of the exam actually lies in this phase, where you have the opportunity to assess your personality—a quality that has developed and matured through the challenging testing process.

You get an opportunity to interact and converse and put your best self with high esteemed panel members for 25-30 minutes. You may face questions on your DAF or any GS subject or Current events or hypothetical question to test your aptitude.

Approaching this final leg with confidence, while keeping certain essential principles in mind, will elevate you from an “ordinary” individual to a civil servant. This esteemed position empowers you to serve the farthest reaches of the country and extend your impact to the most marginalized members of society.

For those preparing for the UPSC civil services personality test, it is imperative to thoroughly read and internalize the instructions provided by UPSC in its annual exam notification regarding the Interview Stage.

  • The candidate will be interviewed by a Board who will have before them a record of his/her career. He/she will be asked questions on matters of general interest. The object of the interview is to assess the personal suitability of the candidate for a career in public service by a Board of competent and unbiased observers. The test is intended to judge the mental calibre of a candidate. In broad terms, this is really an assessment of not only his/her intellectual qualities but also social traits and his/her interest in current affairs. Some of the qualities to be judged are mental alertness, critical powers of assimilation, clear and logical exposition, a balance of judgement, variety and depth of interest, ability for social cohesion and leadership, intellectual and moral integrity.

  • The technique of the interview is not that of a strict cross-examination but of a natural, though directed and purposive conversation which is intended to reveal the mental qualities of the candidate.

  • The interview test is not intended to be a test either of the specialized or general knowledge of the candidates which has been already tested through their written papers. Candidates are expected to have taken an intelligent interest not only in their special subjects of academic study but also in the events which are happening around them both within and outside their own state or country as well as in modern currents of thought and in new discoveries which should arouse the curiosity of well-educated youth.

Pay close attention to the highlighted words in the sentences above. Subsequently, assess whether you embody these characteristics. If you find that you currently lack these attributes, the next consideration is whether you possess the time and patience to cultivate them rapidly.

If you already embody these traits (or those anticipated by the interview board), there is no need to be apprehensive about this experience. However, it is essential not to become excessively confident.

In any case it is not advisable to present your raw self to the board without evaluating yourself.

Though it is true that one must present themselves as honestly as possible, it’s always not in one’s interest to face such a crucial moment without adequate preparation so as to present themselves as someone who meets standards expected by the interview board.

We at InsightsIAS groom you up for the Interview round based on your strengths and weaknesses. The Interview Guidance program is driven by Vinay Sir, the founder and Director of InsightsIAS. He excels in giving right and honest guidance to aspirants who have faith in him. His ability to mentor students without complicating the process is what differentiates him from a myriad options available to an aspirant today.

Starting with  his experience of scoring 210 in his own UPSC interview and then guiding many to score 200+ (starting with Nitish K in CSE-2014 who scored 206), he has been successfully guiding students to increase their Interview marks drastically from 130s to 190+.

Highlights of the Interview Guidance Program are:

  • one-on-one interviews in Bangalore and Delhi centres by Vinay Sir
  • one-on-one interviews/ sessions via Skype [ for online students ]
  • General Guidance sessions both Online (LIVE) and Offline
  • Peer discussions on Important topics

We have an added element of surprise this time!

Our distinguished faculty members will also be conducting one-on-one mock interviews. You might wonder why do we emphasize on one-on-one mock interviews ?

Here are several reasons:

  1. You have the opportunity to undergo multiple rounds with the same interviewer, allowing you to observe improvements in presenting your best self.
  2. Through multiple sessions, you can delve into the details of your Detailed Application Form (DAF) and discuss how to prepare effectively.
  3. Presenting your best self in front of someone who has known you from previous one-on-one sessions is crucial. Learning to maintain your personality in front of a familiar person is as vital as doing so with a completely unknown individual.
  4. At Insights IAS, we encourage you to take any number of mock interviews, till you feel confident to face the final round

In addition to mock interviews with esteemed panels, we strongly advise you to take one-on-one mock interviews seriously and prepare thoroughly.

We believe our esteemed faculties – Pradeep sir, Sudeep sir, Ashish Sir, Manjunath Sir & Nikhil sir who themselves have given multiple interviews and also who have a track record of guiding students for interview round will be invaluable in nurturing you for the final round.

Note: We are starting off with one-on-one mock interviews with our faculties now and Vinay sir will also be taking the mock interviews after the results are announced.

One-on-One Mock Interviews begins from 7th Dec. 2023

Students who have written CSE MAINS 2023 and are satisfied with their performance are advised to start their preparation for the interview immediately.
