Question 1 of 10

Which of the following statements about the Solar Mean Magnetic Field is true?
CorrectAns: (b)
Explanation:
- The correct answer is B) The Solar Mean Magnetic Field is a measure of the average magnetic field strength across the entire Sun. The Solar Mean Magnetic Field refers to the average magnetic field strength over the entire solar surface. It is calculated by taking measurements of the magnetic field at different points on the Sun and averaging them. This field is important for studying the solar activity and understanding the solar dynamo, which drives the Sun’s magnetic cycles.
- Statement A) is incorrect. The Solar Mean Magnetic Field is not necessarily strongest at the equator. It can vary across different latitudes on the Sun.
- Statement C) is incorrect. While the Solar Mean Magnetic Field is closely related to solar activity, it is not directly responsible for solar flares. Solar flares are intense releases of energy in the form of electromagnetic radiation, which are triggered by complex interactions of magnetic fields in the Sun’s atmosphere.
- Statement D) is incorrect. The Solar Mean Magnetic Field is indeed influenced by solar activity. It varies over time as the Sun undergoes its magnetic cycle, which typically lasts around 11 years. During this cycle, the strength and distribution of the magnetic field change, affecting various solar phenomena.
