Sir started going through my DAF. Didn’t read it loudly. Didn’t ask for any introduction.
1. So you come from a town which has an interesting history. Do you know who founded it? (Sir was very happy listening to my answer and said good that you know the history)
2. Why aren’t other such town in India developed on shared basis? Your town has very good ambiance, a planned town. (Average answer and sir said okay leave it)
3. What is biggest hinderance in such cooperative movement for building the town? Any specific point?
4. Your graduation college has also a remarkable history. Can you share it with us?
5. Would you like to introduce yourself as a Mechanical Engineer or Design Engineer or Mechanical Design Engineer?
6. You worked with corporate around 4 years. What went wrong there?

1. What is this Y and V Shashtra subject in 10th Standard? Oh by this subjects you got inclined to Mechanical Engineering as a graduation stream.

segregation? (Mentioned SHG involvement). Sir reminded her regarding time and she asked another member to continue.

2. Your state Gujarat has improved a lot in administration in last 2 decades. Why?
3. As a DM what additional steps would you do apart from those? Give me 2 Suggestions.
4. How do you define yourself as a person?
5. Friends are best critics, how do they define you? (I talked about my weaknesses here)
6. But still you say how your friends evaluate you? (He wanted to ask positive of me from my friends)
7. Tell me about India Bhutan relations. (Average answer)
8. What is Doklam issue? (Sir, not able to recollect it. Sir said leave it)
9. What were the biggest challenges you faced switching from corporate to public
services and biggest strengths that helped you? Give me 2 points for each.

(Asked calmly without any intent of grilling. I could have answered in a better way but unfortunately didn’t recall much. Certainly, a down moment for me for a while, but escapedcthrough it.)
1. Why does Pune have many institutions? (Average answer)
2. Have you ever been to Pune Cantonment area? What’s so special? (Sorry Sir, not able to recollect it; It was regarding old trees on the roadside throughout Cantonment area.)
3. What is Design Engineering? Explain me as if I am a layman. (Detailed answer)
4. Can 3 mm ply sheet withstand 30 kg load? (Sorry Sir, No idea about the Strength of Ply)

1. You mentioned about start up, do you read about it or what? (Mam, I am writing books on Startup and Buddha)
2. How are startups doing in our country? (60+ Unicorns, doing good, detailed answer)
3. Can you give me the example of one of the most successful Startup of India according to you? (I talked about Ola in detail; Since it’s from IIT B Alumni to tribute to banta tha J)
4. Do you know 90% of startups are failing in 1st year. What are the reasons for such failures? (Detailed answer)
5. Can you suggest 2 reasons apart from mentoring (I talked about mentoring as one of the reasons of failure) to improve this situation?
6. Can you elaborate what do you mean by leveraging HR practices to start ups in small cities? (Seemed satisfactory after long conversation on Startup)
7. Give me 3 Suggestions to improve parliamentary committee functioning? (Trickiest question. I started with leveraging expertise, Mam said it’s already there. Before I could experience brain fade moment, somehow handled it nicely after that. Mam nodded on each point after that first one. A big relief after that answer to be honest.)

2. So you have spent 1.5 years in a district, not so long but not so short even. Have you noticed any instance of corruption?
3. What have you done after observing that?
4. Was it the only corruption you observed?
5. In which language do you write your books?
Your interview is over. I wish you a safe journey to your hometown. I also wish you all the best for your current job profile as well as your future job profile. I said thanks and greeted everyone before I left.
No idea about timings. Next candidate told me that he waited at least for 25-30 minutes. I wished him all the best and left.
Very Supportive Board, listened everything calmly, never interrupted me, listened long answers very patiently and didn’t grill me at all. Not even a single subsequent question when I couldn’t answer certain topics. Mostly on DAF’s lines and situation based asking solutions from my side.
Your interview would depend on the questions to be asked on the D-Day, so don’t take excessive pain / load. Be calm and try to answer as much as you can naturally. All The Best Everyone.
P.S. I never remember even 20-30% questions during my mocks, but here almost every question I could remember. Might be THE TYPICAL UPSC EFFECT.
